In 2011, after a life-changing summer with the iSING! International Young Artists Program in Beijing, China, Juliet had the dream of creating a resource for all singers to learn how to sing in Mandarin. For the next decade, Juliet spent nearly half of every year in China studying Mandarin, coaching Chinese music, teaching, performing and collecting the cultural knowledge and appreciation that she would become the definitive guide to singing a repertoire largely unperformed outside of China.
In 2020, she, with co-author, Katherine Chu, published Singing in Mandarin: A Guide to Chinese Lyric Diction and Vocal Repertoire (Rowman and Littlefield, New York), with a foreword by Bright Sheng, the first resource to systemize Mandarin language for singers in the model of Colorni, Grubb, Odom, and Cheek, as well as providing a valuable map through the Chinese contemporary vocal landscape.
Juliet is proud to introduce a new generation of intrepid performers and educators to the repertoire that captured her heart, leading workshops online and in person across the globe. Find more information on workshops here.
